In the late 1960s, David returned from his bohemian sojourn in California to Greenwich Village where he soon started working together with sculptor Hans Van de Bovenkamp. It had been as part of his studio that David met Sybil Kleinrock, a gifted painter who, like David, recently returned from the beatnik scene in California.

The style caught a person’s eye from the gallery owner who asked when the design might be produced on a commercial scale. As this item was so personal to David he declined the offer but realized the very first time that his designs had commercial appeal.
